On the ground floor

An English café under your feet.

The house keeps a small English café at street level. The apartments have their own front door, corridor and staircase — you never walk through the café. But knowing the tea is a few steps away spoils nothing.

On the drive south

A stopover halfway down.

Every year, thousands of British and northern European travellers drive down towards the Dordogne, the south-west and Spain, and want one quiet night without leaving the route. Boussac is on that road. Self check-in until midnight, so arriving late costs nothing; parking close by; and an English café downstairs for breakfast before you set off again. Just one night? Ask — it is usually fine.

Around the house

Boussac, on foot.

Le château de Boussac dominant la vallée de la Petite Creuse

The château, minutes away

It towers over the Petite Creuse at the edge of the town. The Lady and the Unicorn tapestries hung here for decades — George Sand, a regular guest, helped make them famous.

Les Pierres Jaumâtres, chaos de blocs de granit en équilibre

Les Pierres Jaumâtres

A short drive away, a moorland summit strewn with giant granite boulders balanced on one another, and a view over the whole Creuse countryside.

Thursday is market day

Thursday morning, the square fills up: producers, cheese, whatever the season brings. Bakery, chemist and restaurants are a walk away, every day.

The Petite Creuse below

Paths run along the river at the foot of the château — a walk that starts from the front door, no car needed.
